About AmicusX

AmicusX is an online platform that reflects the evolving dynamics of legal education. This website is the result of the enthusiasm of a group of law students, lawyers, and laymen, who have come together to decode and cognize the multi-faceted understanding of the law. The website offers its visitors an opportunity to read about different legal aspects through its blogs, but the offering does not end there. AmicusX aims to fill in the gap between the learnings from law school and the requirements of the legal practice. AmicusX connects to law students through internships, competitions, and other different types of engagements.

About the Webinar

​

Amidst all negativities of the raging global pandemic, it has also provided ample opportunities to enthusiasts to learn and discuss. At a time like this, when most of us are trying to “work from home”, three charismatic lawyers have managed to take some time to speak at our webinar on “Freedom of Speech and Expression in today’s India”. Our erudite panel of speakers will enrich the webinar with their captivating insights into the topic, along with a Q/A session at the end of the webinar.

This is the first webinar organized by AmicusX.

About the Hon’ble Panel

​

1. Mr. Somdutta Bhattacharyya: Somdutta Bhattacharyya graduated from the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata in 2012. He is currently a Managing Associate at Argus Partners, Kolkata. He has previously been associated with firms such as Fox & Mandal and Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas prior to his current stint. His areas of specialization are commercial and civil litigation, arbitration, and insolvency & bankruptcy. He takes a keen interest in legal and constitutional history. His hobbies are reading, traveling, and music.
    

2. Shayak Chakraborty: Shayak Chakraborty is an Advocate of the Calcutta High Court. Having graduated B.A. LL.B.(Hons.) from Gujarat National Law University in 2013, Shayak started his career under the guidance of Tamal Kanti Mukherjee, Public Prosecutor, City Sessions Court, Kolkata. After practicing criminal law for a few years, Shayak switched to practicing civil and writ matters at the Calcutta High Court, initially practicing independently, then joining the Chambers of Samrat Sen, Senior Advocate, before finally settling in the Chambers of Jayanta Kumar Mitra, Barrister-at-law and Senior Advocate, former Advocate General of West Bengal.
    

3. Mr. Satyaki Mitra: Graduated B.A, LL.B from the University of Calcutta, and currently engaged as a Litigation Associate at Victor Moses & Co. (Solicitors, Advocates, & Trademark Attorneys) with a practice-based at the Calcutta High Court. Practice areas include Arbitration matters and Civil, Commercial, and Intellectual Property Litigation. Takes a keen interest in all Social Science disciplines, especially History and Economics, apart from Law. A Fine Arts aficionado in general, and can be somewhat dubbed as an amateur poet and musician. Loves to read, write, debate, and critique cinema. Also happens to love Liverpool F.C!
    

Registration Fee: No registration fee.
 

Eligibility: Anybody can register for the session. However, registrations will be taken on a rolling basis.
